Nascimento to face Dean for 4th district Congressional seat

Christian Nascimento, an executive with one of Pennsylvania's largest companies will face incumbent Democrat Madeleine Dean this November, after winning the Republican nomination in Tuesday's primary.

Nascimento, who grew up in Norristown and now lives in Lower Providence, sailed to a win over small business owner Daniel Burton Jr., of East Cocalico in Lancaster County. Unofficial results from Montgomery and Berks counties had Nascimento with 46,926 votes, and Burton with 21,011.

Dean was unopposed in her primary.

"Thanks to everyone that worked so hard for the past few months," Nascimento said in a Facebook post after being declared winner by CNN. "Now, on to November!"

Burton was eligible to run despite not living in the 4th district, as federal law allows someone to run to represent a Congressional district even if they don't live there, so long as they live in the state in which the district is located.

Nascimento, an executive with Comcast, said inflation is the top issue facing the Congress, and called it "the most painful issue for working families across the country." He said he would pursue an agenda to grow jobs, encourage new business creation and eliminate costly regulations and government outreach.

Burton said voting integrity — including voter identification laws and the use of paper ballots — are a top issue, and pointed to his experience as a Marine and business owner as reasons voters should support his candidacy.
