Agent shoots down report Lionel Messi will head to MLS

The story surrounding Lionel Messi and where he will play next summer just got a little more interesting.

On the same day that news broke the Argentine superstar plans to join Inter Miami FC of the MLS in 2023 once his Paris Saint-Germain contract expires, Messi's agent called the report a fabrication.

"It's completely false," he told Le Parisien.

DIRECTV Sports reported early in the day Tuesday that Messi plans to join Inter Miami, which is co-owned by David Beckham. It was also reported Messi would take a 35-percent stake in the team.

"Leo has not yet decided on his future," his agent continued. "And if Leo Messi has crossed paths with David Beckham in the last few hours, it is only as part of PSG’s stay in Doha where the former English midfielder plays a role as an ambassador for the next World Cup in Qatar."

Messi has tallied six goals and 13 assists in 25 games for PSG in Ligue 1 play and five goals in seven matches in UEFA Champions League play.

Stay tuned — this back-and-forth over whether Messi is headed stateside is clearly far from over.
