Boston police seeking Level 3 sex offender after sexual assault in Chinatown
Boston police are asking for the public's help in locating a man wanted on rape and assault charges.
Boston police said warrants have been issued for Edwin Fantauzzi, 33, of Lawrence, Massachusetts, charging him with rape, assault with intent to rape, and assault and battery.
Police said at about 6:30 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a report of a rape in the area of Harrison Avenue, in downtown Boston. Fantauzzi was identified as the suspect.
The victim of that sexual assault, a 22-year-old woman, said Fantauzzi claimed to be an Uber driver and asked to use a bathroom inside her apartment building.
"He dragged me into the building, and he was very violent. He was strong," the victim said. "I thought he would take my keys and drag me back into my apartment and do something worse. I also thought I might be killed."
Fantauzzi is a Level 3 sex offender who was convicted in 2019 of indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14.
Multiple sources told 5 Investigates' Kathy Curran that investigators are eyeing Fantauzzi as a suspect in two recent incidents at Boston University.
BU police said they are investigating the rape of a student who said a man forced his way into her apartment near Granby Street shortly before midnight Friday. Three other students then reported a man aggressively followed them on Granby Street as they walked to the South Campus, and then offered them a ride.
Fantauzzi is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs 185 pounds.
