Rockstar Leak Has GTA Fans Seeing Red

Rockstar Games' "Grand Theft Auto" is one of the most beloved video game franchises of all time. The series' most recent entry, "Grand theft Auto 5," was its biggest title yet, breaking records across the board and becoming one of the top-selling games of all time (per USA Today). Naturally, fans were eager to see what Rockstar had in store for players with "Grand Theft Auto 6." Cut to nine years later, and there's still no release date for "GTA 6." Aside from a small footnote in a recent Rockstar blog post confirming the company is working on the title, there is very little known about the game.

This frustrated gamers, with many blaming the success of "Grand Theft Auto Online" for the "GTA 6" delay. And with the release of the "GTA Online" subscription service, "GTA+," Rockstar's multiplayer success isn't going away anytime soon. Now, an unconfirmed leak from "GTA" publisher Take-Two may give anxious players insight into when the next "GTA" drops — and fans still aren't happy.

GTA 6 may not be releasing anytime soon

On May 16, games journalist and insider Tom Henderson tweeted out an image of what appears to be a screenshot of Take-Two's internal release schedule, apparently showing the company's planned launches from 2023 to 2025. The releases are categorized in a spreadsheet with five rows: Immersive Core, Independent, Mobile, Mid Core, and New Iterations of Previously Released Titles. The number of games being developed in each category is in the next column, with Immersive Core seeing the most listings at 24 games. The related column lists several titles, including "Kerbal Space Program 2" and "NBA 2K23." However, much to gamers' dissatisfaction, "GTA 6" was nowhere to be found on the list.

Users were unsurprisingly angry when they found out that "GTA 6" wasn't on the list and vented their frustration in the replies. "GTA 6" being absent from the list would theoretically put the game arriving in 2026 at the earliest. Additionally, some expressed their frustration that a "GTA" mobile port made it onto the list when the new sequel did not. But all hope may not be lost, as the document also mentions that Take-Two may add new titles to the list in the future.

This isn't the first supposed leak about Take-Two's upcoming releases, of course. For example, a different Take-Two 2023-2025 release pipeline was previously leaked (via @NEWSLEAKSGTAS), and it had "Grand Theft Auto 6" among the titles launching in the second half of 2024. As always, it's worth taking these leaks with a grain of salt. Ultimately, fans won't know for certain until Rockstar or Take-Two confirms the information.
