Marvel's Echo Drops First Look of Maya Lopez's Return in the Upcoming Disney Plus Series

Introduced in Hawkeye, Alaqua Cox is about to make her return as Maya Lopez in her very own upcoming series on Disney Plus, Echo, and Marvel just dropped the first look image for the show, teasing what comes next for the titular character after she turned her back from the tracksuit mafia and her uncle, Kingpin.

Marvel just released the first look image of Echo with Alaqua Cox playing Maya Lopez sits behind what seems like a trailer truck with the reading on the trailer for the rating of the forklift floor at 24,000 lbs. Maya looks as if she is fresh from a fight, in disbelief, and tired with one leg latched on a bar and the other hanging.

Marvel Studios proudly announced, along with the photo, that the production of Echo is officially underway. The series is also expected to come out in 2023.

A short synopsis has been released with the image, “the origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.”

This indicates that the series will be set after the events of Hawkeye where Maya Lopez killed Kazi who would not give up the fight. Maya turned her back from the tracksuit mafia and her uncle, Kingpin. Maya would be tracing her roots, taking her past in the present to be able to face the future.

Maya Lopez, having her own show, is a significant move for Marvel towards diversification and representation as part of their promise for the future of the franchise. Not only is the character a Native American, Alaqua Cox is also deaf and an amputee and making her a heroine in her own story would mean so much especially to those who are deaf or amputees.

Alaqua Cox returns as Maya Lopez/ Echo and she will be joined by Chaske Spencer, Devery Jacobs, Tantoo Cardinal, Cody Lightning, Graham Greene, and Zahn McClarnon. The series will be directed by Syndey Freeland and Catriona McKenzie.

Echo is expected to release in 2023 exclusively on Disney Plus.
