Pickford boys win Munising Invitational

MUNISING — Pickford added another track and field meet title to its season accomplishments Friday.

The Pickford boys won the Munising Lions Invitational, an evening meet held under the lights at Mustang Stadium. The Panthers prevailed with 77 points to lead 10 schools, while Munising was runner-up with 54, Manistique was third with 29, Newberry was fourth with 27 and Stephenson capped the top five with 25 points.

Pickford’s Hunter Hagen won the 800 (2:15.97) and 3200 (11:42.16), while Hayden Hagen took first in the 1600 (4:57.38) and 3200 (11:42.16). Josh Sullivan won 110 hurdles (18.17) and took second in 300 hurdles, while Caden Awbrey won 300 hurdles (42.46) and was second in 100 hurdles. John Smith placed first in high jump (5-9). 

Cole Warner, Aaron Heal, Awbrey and Noah Barowski won 800 relay in 1:37.83. Awbrey, Heal, Hunter Hagen and Sullivan took first in 1600 relay (3:43.56). Heal, Garrett Orsborne, Hayden Hagen and Hunter Hagen won 3200 relay (9:27.32). 

Hunter Hagen was second in the 1600, while Sullivan was also third in the 400. 

Eric Edwards of Newberry won shot put (39-10.5). 

Pickford took third in the girls meet. Bark River-Harris won with 88.5, followed by Munising 43.5, Pickford 39, Manistique 36, Stephenson 24.5, Mid Peninsula 18, Big Bay de Noc 8.5, Newberry 7, and Superior Central 4. 

Pickford’s Kadence Potoczak won discus (95-11) and finished second in shot put. Brooke Portice took third in discus, while Chloe May was fourth in discus and shot put. 

Lizzie Storey tied for first in pole vault (7-feet). Lucy Bennin took third in the 200. Haley Cornwell took third in the 3200. 

Bennin, Kennedy Guild, Sydnie Stevenson and Storey took second in 800 relay. Sorelle Mota, Stevenson, Guild and Storey were second in 400 relay.

Kaylen Clark of Newberry was second in the 1600 and fourth in 3200. 

Pickford hosts a Division 3 regional meet Friday.
