Another semi has rolled over near a common Garden City intersection with history of problematic crashes, despite millions spent on fixes.
The Utah Transportation Commission approved a $5 million escape truck ramp in 2020 in efforts to avoid collisions
The incident took place at the intersection of Bear Lake Boulevard and Logan Road Tuesday morning.
According to witnesses, the semi truck had tipped over on its side and was carrying a full load of bottled water.
The semi managed to avoid colliding with any adjacent businesses, landing just a few feet from the popular Famous Raspberry Shakes.
According to police, the semi was driving eastbound on US-89 at the "T" intersection with Bear Lake Boulevard around 6 a.m.
Officials said the driver experienced an equipment issue which caused the driver unable to stop. The driver then proceeded and attempted to make a left-hand turn when the semi rolled.
The driver was not injured during the incident, according to authorities.
Bear Lake Boulevard was closed while officials cleared the area. They advised there was a short detour to accommodate drivers within the area.
The Utah Transportation Commission approved funding for the ramp project on U.S. 89 near State Road 30 on Feb. 21.
The $5 million ramp project was built where the highway comes into Garden City in northwestern Rich County, where 4 semi-trucks have crashed beginning in 2018.
UDOT also installed a new traffic signal at the problem intersection back in 2020.
In August of 2019, runaway trucks crashed into the same Garden City condo complex two times in one week.
In October 2018, a semi-truck driver was killed when the brakes on his rig overheated, causing him to go out of control and smash into a building.
