After the departures of wideouts Cedrick Wilson and Amari Cooper in the offseason, the Dallas Cowboys decided to add some depth to their wide receiver room by using a third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to acquire Jalen Tolbert out of the South Alabama football program.

And so far, it appears that Tolbert is doing a fine job making sure that the Cowboys feel that they made a great business decision to take him, with Mike McCarthy sounding optimistic of what the rookie could do right out of the gate.

“He reminds you just on first impressions as far as his movement traits, he’s somewhere kind of between CeeDee and Cedrick Wilson,” Dallas coach Mike McCarthy said. “That’s his body type, and I think that’s a great comparable, and I think it illustrates what we’re looking for. When you have that type of skill set where you can come in here and have the ability to play inside and outside, I think it’s a real value.”

There are definitely going to be opportunities for Tolbert to shine in the pass-heavy Cowboys offense in his rookie season in the pros. In 2021, the Cowboys ranked fifth in the league in passes per game (38.4) and fourth in passing yards per contest (279.4). With Wilson and Cooper gone and Michael Gallup still recovering from a torn ACL injury, Talbot could become one of the trusted weapons downfield by quarterback Dak Prescott.
