In a world continuing to be ravaged by a pandemic, who doesn’t want a little more dystopian escapism? Look no further than Netflix’s upcoming film “Spiderhead.” The upcoming film finds a way to marry post-apocalyptic tension with romance. The movie is based on the George Saunders short story that originally ran in the New Yorker called “Escape from Spiderhead.” It was later collected in his bestselling anthology, Tenth Of October.

“Spiderhead” takes place in the near future where prisoners are the subject of medical experiments in exchange for a shortened sentence. One prisoner receives a new drug that renders him capable of feeling love. This causes him to question everything he knows, setting him off on a journey to find answers.
“Spiderhead” stars Chris Hemsworth (“Thor: Ragnarok“), Miles Teller (“Whiplash“), and Jurnee Smollett (“Lovecraft Country“). The rest of the cast is yet to be announced. The movie was written by Rhett Reese (“6 Underground“) and Paul Wernick (“Zombieland: Double Tap“). “Spiderhead” was directed by Joseph Kosinski (“Oblivion“) who will make his second movie in 2022 following “Top Gun: Maverick.”
