Deputies respond to report of suicide on 81st Street Monday

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Deputies briefly shut down a roadway north of the fairgrounds while responding to calls of a suicide off 81st Street Monday evening.

The thoroughfare between 58th of 66th avenues was closed shortly after the incident was reported to law enforcement at 3:35 p.m., Indian River County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Keith Carson said.

Rescue workers took the person to a hospital by ambulance, said Carson.

Carson said the report to deputies occurred in an unpaved, agricultural area in the 6500 block of 81st Street.

The street runs east-to-west just north of the Indian River County Fairgrounds and Vero Beach Indian River County Humane Society and east of Liberty Magnet School.

Outside of the confirmation of the person's death, no other details were available, he said.
