Opera Lafayette Announces 2022 Season, ‘The Era of Marie Antoinette’

Opera Lafayette has announced its 2022 season which is entitled “The Era of Marie Antoinette, Rediscovered.”

The season will include three showcases starting with Grétry’s “Silvain.” The 1770 opera, the first to be presented in New Orleans in 1796, will get shown at The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and at El Museo in New York City.

Artistic Director Ryan Brown conducts a production by director Tania Hernandez Velasco. The cast will include Sophia Burgos, Victor Sicard, Samantha Louis-Jean, Teresa Castillo, Jehú Otero, and Nathan Berg.

Performance Dates: June 2-7, 2022

The season will also feature “The Musical Salon of Marie Antoinette.” The chamber concert will feature music by Gluck, Chevalier de Saint Georges, Hinner, and others. Nicholas Phan and Sophia Burgos will headline the program.

Performance Dates: June 8, 2022

Next up will be “Concert Spirituel aux Caraibes.” The event will feature music by Gossec, Dalayrac, Pergolesi, and others. The program will spotlight the dynamics between musical culture of imperial France and the enslaved people in its colonies. Performers include Samantha Louis-Jean, Sophia Burgos, Marketa Cukrova, Jehú Otero, Victor Sicard, and Jonathan Woody. Pedro Memlsdoff conducts the Opera Lafayette Orchestra.

Performance Dates: June 9 & 10, 2022
