'NCIS' Star Brian Dietzen Teases Jimmy Palmer Romance in Season 19 Finale

NCIS has had many iconic romances over the years, with some ending happily and others culminating in tragedy.

Dr Jimmy Palmer, played by Brian Dietzen, has already experienced the latter after his wife Breena (Michelle Pierce) died off screen after contracting COVID-19 in Season 18.

But Dietzen has now teased that another romance could be on the cards between his character and Special Agent Jessica Knight (Katrina Law).

Palmer and Knight have had a will-they-won't-they dynamic over the course of Season 19, which was fuelled by a date they shared at her cousin's wedding.

While the outing would logically point to romance, things between the pair did not go so far as that, particularly because Palmer has still been coming to terms with his wife's passing.

The character has been slowly accepting that there is a life for him after his tragic loss, and he has suggested he and Knight go out for coffee once before.

Though Knight initially invited several people to join them for coffee, meaning the outing would not be classed as a date, she later admitted she'd been concerned about losing their friendship but suggested they go out just the two of them.

Discussing the potential for a romance to bloom between Palmer and Knight, Dietzen told TV Insider that the show's finale would see the two characters address the future of their relationship, and they are not going to wait "seven or eight" episodes to do so.

He told the publication: "They definitely will be addressing their time together in this episode... We're not leaving the audience high and dry on where the heck is this thing going? We're gonna be choosing a direction before the end of this episode."

Dietzen teased that he feels Palmer will feel positive about the way in which his and Knight's relationship goes, adding: "You know the history of NCIS, it's filled with some tragic love stories that have been really beautiful and iconic...

"There's been a lot of things where things have happened relationship-wise on this show. It's nice to see something where there's some happiness."

He did, however, stipulate that while characters may flirt with one another onscreen this doesn't always result in a relationship developing between them, but that he felt there was "a little bit of hope there."

The finale of NCIS Season 19 airs Monday, May 23 at 9 p.m. on CBS.
