RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that redshirt senior Kevin Stevens, of the baseball team, is the Massage Envy Student-Athlete of the Week.
 
Stevens, who was named Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, pitched the Vaqueros to a victory over Sam Houston on Friday. 
 
Stevens, who was making his final home start of his career, pitched eight scoreless innings while striking out nine and scattering just three hits.
 
With the win, Stevens improved to 8-2 on the season and is sporting a 2.78 ERA with a team-leading 85 strikeouts. 
 
Stevens ranks 16th in the NCAA and second in the WAC in wins (8), 74th in the NCAA and second in the WAC in ERA (2.78), 58th in the NCAA and second in the WAC in strikeouts (85), 92nd in the NCAA and second in the WAC in strikeouts per nine innings (10.72), and 131st in the NCAA and second in the WAC in hits allowed per nine innings (7.57).
 
Stevens currently ranks eighth in program history with 213 career strikeouts and is four shy of Hall of Famer Jesse Trinidad (1974-76) for seventh. 
 
In his career, Stevens is 16-7 with a 3.05 ERA with four complete games. He has pitched in 185.2 innings while opponents are batting .225 against him.
