Class of 2023 three-star wide receiver Andy Jean has announced his top eight schools, and Penn State has made the cut, he told Joseph Hastings of On3Sports.

The Crimson Tide offered Jean last week and are in contention for hosting him for an official visit down the line.

Penn State is in the top eight for the 6-foot-2, 185-pound receiver from Northwestern High School in Miami, Florida. The other seven schools are Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Miami, LSU, Pitt and Texas A&M. Penn State offered Jean May 4, and he has an official visit to the school scheduled for June 10. He’s also scheduled to have an official visit to Florida June 24, and doesn’t have visits for any of the other six schools scheduled for June.
On3Sports’ Peter Warren wrote that Jean’s interest in Penn State comes from the “academics of the school, their consistency sending good wideouts to the NFL and the opportunity to play in front of 100,000 screaming fans.
Penn State currently has one receiver committed to its 2023 class. Ajani Shakir, from Winslow Township High School in Atco, New Jersey, committed last week, becoming the 12th overall player from the 2023 class to do so.
Penn State has stiff competition for Jean. The hometown Miami Hurricanes are in his top eight, along with defending national champion Georgia and national runner-up Alabama. Florida and LSU are both long-established in the SEC and fellow SEC school Texas A&M has recently developed into a recruiting juggernaut.
If Jean commits to Penn State he will be the first player from Florida committed to coach James Franklin’s 2023 class. The Lions hope that the addition of defensive coordinator Manny Diaz, previously the head coach at Miami, will help them establish more of a presence down south.
