Six puppies left on the side of the road in Holliston. Police seek help
HOLLISTON — Authorities are asking for the public's help in identifying the person who left a box of newborn puppies on the side of the road last Friday.
The six newborn puppies, believed to be less than a week old and whose eyes were not yet open, were found on Cedar Street. A community member turned the litter into police.
"Abandoning animals is illegal in Massachusetts," Holliston police officials said in a prepared statement. "If you cannot care for a pet, contact any local shelter of the MSPCA (Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.")
Holliston police and the MSPCA are investigating the incident, and are asking anyone with information to contact them. Police believed the puppies were abandoned between 8-9 p.m. Friday. Tips can be confidential, police said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Holliston Police Department at 508-429-1212 or to email Detective Ciara Maguire at maguirec@hollistonpolice.com or to email the MSPCA at lawenforcement@mspca.org.
The puppies are being cared for by Holliston Animal Control.
"They're doing well," said Maguire. "They're eating. They all appear healthy and they're eating."
