Carson Wentz is now the quarterback for the Washington Commanders. The Commanders are Wentz’s third team in three years. So it goes without saying, the former Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts QB is running out of chances.

ESPN’s new Monday Night Football broadcast team, Troy Aikman and play-by-play announcer Joe Buck, were introduced Monday. Aikman and Buck jumped from FOX Sports to be the voices on Monday night.

During an ESPN introductory conference call with Buck, Aikman was asked about thoughts surrounding their Week 10 matchup that will see Wentz return to Philadelphia for the first time since he was traded in 2021 to the Colts.

Aikman stressed the point that this may indeed be Wentz’s final chance.

“This is probably his last opportunity, just being blunt, to prove that he can be a franchise quarterback,” Aikman said per ESPN’s John Keim. “I’m hopeful he’ll be able to take advantage of it… This is a defining season for Carson Wentz.”

Wentz appeared to be the franchise QB of the Eagles. But something has been amiss with him since his torn ACL in 2017 that forced him to watch the Eagles Super Bowl run from the sidelines.

The two seasons that followed left a lot to be desired. In 2020, the wheels seemingly fell off as he led the NFL with 15 interceptions and was sacked a league-most 50 times.

THe Eagles pulled the plug during the 2021 offseason, sending him to the Colts. Last season Wentz did well, throwing 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions. But, his meltdown in the final two games of the season caused the Colts a spot in the playoffs.

He’s now in Washington, cast away from Indy by its owner and GM. There’s enough surrounding the Commanders to be optimistic about his chances. However, His struggles with health and decision-making are causes for concern.

How well Wentz does this upcoming season in Washington will go a long way towards his future.
