Washburn’s Tori Coffman was throwing strikes in the high sixty’s
and was the fastest pitcher the Rangers had faced all year.

She may have been one of the hardest hitters also. After her first double
deep to right field, Coach Kenneth Chambers decided she would walk
every time she batted the rest of the game.

The decision paid off as Coffman was stranded on base all three times in
the game.

Mostly thanks to Trinity Bowers who struck out 14 batters, only walked
two and allowed only three hits en route to a 3-0 win and a sub-state birth.

The Lady Rangers would steal three runs on two hits as Sadie Shoun
stole home twice to lead Unaka to the regional title game on Wednesday.

Shoun walked in the first, stole second and third, and was thrown out on a
controversial play at the plate when she was tagged getting up and called out
for the third out in the inning.

Bowers struck out three batters in the first. In the second, Bowers struck out two
and Shoun made a great catch to end the second for Washburn.

Coffman struck out two Rangers and Kendall Bare flew out to the left fielder to
end a quick inning with no base runners for either team.

In the third, Bowers struck out two then lead-off batter Williams hit Washburn’s
second hit of the game. Second baseman Shoun came up with the third out to
end the threat in the third for Washburn.

Coffman faced the bottom of the Ranger line-up as by now she was throwing
66 mph. Hailey Gilman and Mattie Salyer both put the bat on the ball but
couldn’t reach base.

In the fourth inning Bowers struck out the first two batters, and Proffitt hit to Shoun
who once again ended the inning for the Pirates.

In the fifth for the Rangers, Jill Faust walked and would score when Gilman and
Lyndie Ramsey singled. Gilman was called out stealing home.

The second score gave the Rangers a little cushion. Bowers extended her strikeout
count fanning all three girls in the fifth.

Unaka would add the final home plate steal in the sixth when Shoun walked, stole
second, third, and home to give the Rangers a 3-0 win.

Unaka will face North Greene on Wednesday night with the winner playing at home
in the sectional on Friday.
