#4 Potosi And #2 Central To Meet In Class 4 District 2 Championship

(Ste. Genevieve) The Class 4 District 2 Championship game is set after an exciting night of semifinal matchups on KREI. #4 Potosi upset #1 Valle Catholic 6-4 and #2 Central took down #3 Ste. Genevieve 10-0.

The Trojans went to the plate and loaded up the bases in the top of the first for junior Jay Pashia…

Over the next three innings, Valle starter Collin Vaeth worked out of a bases loaded jam and had two 1-2-3 innings. But in the 5th, Potosi loaded up the bases again with Pashia back at the dish…

Vaeth was relieved and moved to third but he left the game two batters later after landing awkward on his left leg while fielding a ground ball. Potosi plated two more in the inning but Warriors catcher Josh Bieser picked off two runners to help his team get to the plate. Valle scored twice over the next two innings and forced Potosi starter Hunter Kincaid out of the game with one out in the 7th after reaching his pitch limit. two batter later, Valle sophomore Grant Fallert had his chance with the bases loaded…

All of a sudden, Potosi reliever Isaiah Arndt found himself in a save situation, but he lived up to the moment…

After winning just 5 of their first 16 games, and tying one of them, Potosi has won 6 of the last 7 and are one game away from the State playoffs. Trojans coach Steve McCoy says the hard work his team put in over the season is paying off…

Kincaid was the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the game throwing 6 1/3 innings while helping himself at the dish going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. They improve to 11-17-1 while Valle Catholic ends their season at 25-8.

In the second semifinal, Central and Ste. Genevieve were engaged in a defensive battle up until the 5th inning. The Rebels had a 1-0 lead going into the fifth frame, but then the bats started to come alive. Sophomore Casen Murphy brought home the first run of the inning.

The Rebels would plate four more runs after that, capped off by a two-RBI single from Senior Brendon Jenkins making the score 6-0.

In the sixth inning, The Rebels would score four more runs and end the game on a Mercy Rule. Head Coach Ronnie Calvird says he is really proud of the guys at the bottom of his batting order.

Our Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game was Casen Murphy who pitched 6 innings, gave up only 1 hit, no runs, no walks, and 11 strikeouts. Murphy also had a day at the dish, going 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI’s. Central improves to 19-3 and Ste. Genevieve finishes their season with a record of 14-10.
