State A Boys Tennis: Mitchell grabs lead, Milbank 10th after opening day

RAPID CITY — A perfect day helped Mitchell grab the opening-day lead in the state Class A high school boys tennis tournament on Monday.

The Kernels advanced all six singles players and all three their doubles teams into the semifinals and scored 300 points to lead the 13-team field.

Rapid City Christian and Yankton each scored 287.5 points, followed by Pierre at 224 and Rapid City Christian at 214.5.

Milbank, the only area team in the field, scored 73.5 points and is in 10th place heading into Tuesday's final day.

Singles

Benett Street (First Flight) — Went 1-2 and has been eliminated.

Joe Schulte (Second Flight) — Went 1-1 with bye and reached consolation finals (ninth place).

Gregory Grabow (Third Flight) — Went 2-1 and reached consolation finals (ninth  place).

Charles Whitesitt (Fourth Flight) — Went 2-1 and reached consolation finals (ninth place).

Will Snaza (Fifth Flight) — Went 1-2 and has been eliminated.

Daniel Shelstad (Sixth Flight) — Went 1-1 with bye and reached consolation finals (ninth place).

Doubles

Street-Schulte (First Flight) — Went 1-2 and have been eliminated.

Grabow-Whitesitt (Second Flight) — Went 0-2 and have been eliminated.

Snaza-Isaiah Korstjens (Third Flight) — Went 1-1 and remain alive in fifth-place semis bracket.
