Marlboro County High School senior Caleb Brown signed a scholarship Monday afternoon to play basketball with St. Andrews University in Laurinburg.
Brown played the point guard position with his high school team.
They went on to win the Class 3A State Championship in 2021.
Brown said to play at the college level means the world to him.
"It's really a dream. It feels surreal. But, it's really a dream. It's always been a dream of mine. Playing backyard basketball. Playing in the dirt until now. Being on the big court," said Brown.
Brown said he knows it's going to take hard work to play basketball on a college level, but he's up for the challenge.
"Just catching up to the speed of it. I've played with some college players. My trainer is a college player. He tells me all the things I need to know," he said.
Brown averaged double figures in scoring and seven assists per game.
He said he wants to excel in his college game just as he did on a high school level.
Brown said he knows it'll take as much teamwork as his individual ability to win collegiate games.
He added he's learned the importance of teamwork through playing high school basketball and his coaches.
Brown said he plans to major in the field of sports performance.
