Mitchell leads after the first day of the Class A state tournament in Rapid City.

The Kernels' 300 points give them a narrow lead over second-place RC Christian (287.5), with favorite Yankton tied with the Comets at second.

Mitchell advanced to the semifinal in both flight one singles and flight one doubles, adding several wins across Monday to add to the two most important flights in the state tennis tournament.

The Comets and the Bucks won most of their higher-seeded matchups throughout all six singles flights and most doubles flights. Pierre and Sioux Falls Christian trail heavily in fourth and fifth, respectively, but still picked up several wins Monday, including an upset for the Governors in flight two.

Here are the results for day one of the Class A tennis state championship.
