(SportsRadio 610) - Astros starter Jake Odorizzi was carted off the field against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park with a left leg injury after pitching five innings.

Odorizzi took off from the mound to cover first base on a grounder by Keke Hernández, but his leg buckled and he collapsed to the ground. First baseman Yuli Gurriel field the grounder and tagged first to end the inning, but Odorizzi remained down for an extended period of time while waiting on a stretcher to cart him the field.

The Astros described Odorizzi's exit as "left lower leg discomfort." Manager Dusty Baker told reporters after the game Odorizzi was on crutches, in a boot, and would undergo an MRI on Tuesday.

After a rough start to the season, Odorizzi had pitched masterfully in his previous three starts heading into Monday's series opener against the Red Sox.

He entered the night carrying a scoreless innings streak of 15.2 innings, the longest by an Astro this season. He was 3-0 with a 0.51 ERA and 0.57 WHIP in his previous starts, allowing just six hits for a .107 opponent batting average.

Odorizzi finished Monday's outing giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits with four strikeouts and a walk before the injury.

The Astros and Red Sox tied at two runs apiece with a rain delay in the sixth inning. Boston eventually won the game 6-3.
