Vigo County Public Library to open 12 Points branch in late 2023

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Residents in the 12 Points area of Terre Haute will soon have easy access to library resources in 2023.

The Vigo County Public Library announced the 15 to 18 month long project for a new branch at the old Thomas Funeral Home building on N. 13th Street. There is no set date when the construction will start on the building or what the new branch will offer. But the Vigo County Public Library Board will continue to expand conversations with community members of the 12 Points neighborhood to see what is needed for the area.

A few ideas have already been discussed, like a possible drive-thru window, a mural on the building and services designed for children and families.

Executive Director Kristi Howe said they are taking the project step by step.

“It’ll take a little bit of time. You know the building is quite old, it was originally built in 1922,” Howe stated. “So, our first steps are going through and documenting the existing structure and doing some analysis to make sure we’re familiar with you know the facility and all of its quarks.”

The library branch is set to be finished in the second half of 2023.
