18-month-old toddler drowns in Winter Garden retention pond
Monday afternoon, the Winter Garden Police Department received a call about a toddler drowning.
The drowning was reported as occurring behind Cypress Street in a retention pond around 5:30 p.m.
A neighbor reportedly helped pull the 18-month-old boy out of the pond.
CPR was performed on the toddler and he was taken to the hospital.
The child was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to officials.
A family member, who was babysitting prior to the drowning, says she discovered that the child was gone after she used the bathroom.
She says the sliding glass door to the backyard was also open along with an unlocked gate near the pond.
The Department of Children and Families has been made aware of the situation.
It is unclear if any charges will be filed.
