TOLNA, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Carrington Cardinals had two Region 3 games in Tolna on Monday, as their home field at Carrington City Park is still to wet to play on, they have not had one home game this spring season. The Cardinals pick up two important victories in the region, both 5-2 scores over Dakota Prairie/Midkota/Lakota/Griggs County and Sheyenne/New Rockford to improve to 6-3 in the region and 6-4 overall. DP/M/L/GC drops to 4-5 in the region and 5-6 overall, SNR drops to 0-8 in R3 and 2-10 overall.

In the first game, Junior Hudson Schmitz was 3-for-4 at the plate, including a solo homerun, a 2-run homerun and a double to help the Cardinals defeat the Mustangs of DP/M/L/GC, 5-2. Schmitz hit the first two homeruns all year for the Cardinals. Cade Stein and Preston Lee had two hits each for the Mustangs. Senior Lucas Hendrickson was the winning pitcher, working all seven innings. Lee took the loss.

In game two of the day, Sophomore pitcher Grady Shipman struck out 14 batters on the mound, hit a double at the plate and scored a run to help Carrington defeat the Black Sox, 5-2. Hudson Schmitz had a single, double and knocked in one for the Cardinals as well. Lead-off batter for SNR Connor Knatterud had three singles and scored twice. Shipman was the winning pitcher, working all seven innings, Keaton Cudworth took the loss.
