A 17-year-old was shot and killed in west Birmingham Monday evening, according to the Birmingham Police Department.
Police said the teen, who was identified as Dwaine Thomas, was shot at an apartment complex in the 1200 block of Tuscaloosa Avenue around 6:00 p.m.
Police said officers were passing through the area on their way to another call when they heard a gunshot.
Officers found Thomas on the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said a believed suspect in the shooting attempted to drive away and a brief chase began. The suspect eventually got away from police.
Police said the shooting is believed to be the result of a fight and several people were outside likely recording the incident.
