Jefferson County elementary school receives library grant from Laura Bush foundation
An elementary school in Jefferson County is one of 300 schools across the country to receive a grant from the Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries.U.W. Clemon Elementary School in Adamsville was awarded a $5,000 grant to update and diversify the books in its library. School librarian Lindsey Bishop said the grant will allow the school to purchase books that will encourage leadership and expose students to various languages and cultures from around the world.“U.W. Clemon Elementary School is honored to have been chosen as a recipient of a grant from the Laura Bush Foundation this year! We are looking forward to opening the school year in August of 2022 as a Global, Language, and Leadership Theme School," Bishop said.Founded by former First Lady Laura Bush in 2002, the organization supports school libraries with the greatest needs in hopes of encouraging all students to develop a love of reading and learning.“I am thrilled that children from 300 schools will soon have access to an updated library collection,” Bush said. “Students across the country turn to books to discover the world around them, and we know that opening a new book opens the door to new opportunities and learning.”Since 2002, the organization has awarded more than $19.5 million to more than 3,300 schools in America.Learn more about the Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries and its initiatives here.

School librarian Lindsey Bishop said the grant will allow the school to purchase books that will encourage leadership and expose students to various languages and cultures from around the world.
