A Hempfield man was paroled Monday after he pleaded guilty to charges related to an incident last year in which a woman sustained a gunshot wound to her ring finger.

Police said Timothy John Luchon, 40, had a physical altercation with a woman at a home near New Stanton on Jan. 6, 2021. According to court records, Luchon grabbed the woman, then shot her in the left ring finger.

Luchon then hid the gun in an attic and drove the woman to a hospital in Monroeville before fleeing the scene, police said.

In Westmoreland County court on Monday, Luchon pleaded guilty to one felony charge of aggravated assault and two counts of reckless endangerment. Two children, ages 11 and 10, were at the home at the time of the shooting.

Prosecutors dismissed child endangerment and other offenses as part of the plea deal.

“I would like to take responsibility for my actions,” Luchon said during his plea hearing.

Assistant District Attorney Theresa Miller-Sporrer said Luchon’s victim consented to the plea deal.

Common Pleas Court Judge Meagan Bilik-DeFazio ordered Luchon serve nine to 23 months in jail but immediately paroled him after she gave him credit for time served behind bars since his arrest. Luchon also was sentenced to serve an additional five years on probation.

A separate case, Luchon pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct in connection with incident three weeks earlier, on Dec. 11, 2020, that prompted a lockdown at AHN Hempfield Neighborhood Hospital, according to police.

State police troopers said Luchon drove around the hospital 4 a.m. and appeared to be intoxicated while the same woman was inside being treated for other injuries.
