EAST CALN — Just before 1:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon firefighters were dispatched to the Woodmont North Apartments at 400 Winding Way for a reported apartment fire. Multiple tenants who were on location at the apartments called 911 to advise of thick black smoke and flames from an apartment on the third floor and that it had extended into the roof.

Smoke could be seen from the Route 30 bypass as emergency personnel responded to the scene. Once on location firefighters were met with fire and smoke on the third floor of the apartment with several people on balconies to the rear of the building. Multiple handlines were placed into service by firefighters to extinguish the flames. Several firefighters were also on the roof cutting vent holes to allow smoke and heat to escape to help the firefighters inside the apartments.

Officials placed the fire under control at 2:31 p.m., one subject was evaluated by EMS on scene but was not transported. This was the same building that had a fire in February of this year.

The fire is currently under investigation.
