SAN ANGELO, Texas — A 32-year-old man was arrested for driving while intoxicated and multiple other charges early Sunday after a San Angelo Police officer saw him speeding and driving the wrong way on the Houston Harte Expressway.

According to an SAPD press release, at approximately 1:16 a.m. Sunday, an SAPD sergeant performing DWI enforcement duties saw a car traveling in the wrong direction at a high rate of speed in the 2000 block of West Houston Harte Expressway.

The officer turned on his emergency lights/sirens and tried to stop the car. The driver disregarded the emergency lights/sirens and proceeded to drive eastbound in the westbound lanes on the Houston Harte Expressway, the release said.

An SAPD K9 unit was able to get in front of the car near the 4100 block of U.S. Hwy 67, which ultimately resulted in the car turning around on the highway and stopping a short distance later. Officers were then able to arrest Angelo Garcia, 32, without further incident.

Garcia was charged with:

  • Evading arrest/detention with a motor vehicle
  • Driving while intoxicated blood alcohol level >= 0.15
  • Possession of marijuana < 2 oz
  • Two county warrants
  • Two city warrants
  • One out-of-county warrant
