Voters are gearing up to vote in the primary election.
As voters make their way to the polls, here is some information on how to prepare.
Director of Elections for Craven County Meloni Wray said the voting process is easy. She said voters just need to get out there and do it.
As voters prepare to cast their vote for the primary election, Wray said there are a few things voters need to know.
“They need to know where their precinct is, their assigned precinct, based on their resident address,” said Wray.
Wray said knowing your voting location is important to ensure you get the correct ballot.
She also said first-time voters who did not provide their I.D. and social security number when they registered, will be required to bring it with them when they vote.
When it comes to non-first-time voters, Wray said “They just have to state their name, address, and party affiliation to vote in the primary.”
Wray encourages people to get out and vote, but hopes voters will have done their research beforehand.
“If you’re registered Republican, you have to get the Republican ballot, if you’re registered Democrat, you have to get the Democrat ballot. There is not a nonpartisan choice for the unaffiliated, but unaffiliates can choose either the Democrat or the Republican ballot. The only one that an unaffiliated can get other than a Democrat or Republican, if they live in the city of New Bern, they can get just the city of New Bern ballot,” said Wray.
Voting for the primary election is Tuesday. Polls are expected to open at 6:30 a.m. and will close at 7:30 p.m.
