(610 Sports) – The Kansas City Royals have underwhelmed at the plate this season and that might be putting it lightly. Ranking at or near the bottom in nearly every offensive category, it was time to make a change.
Per the club, effective immediately, hitting coach Terry Bradshaw will no longer be with the team.
Per a release from the club on Monday morning, there are several changes that will accompany this move. Among them, Alec Zumwalt, Senior Director for Player Development and Hitting Performance, will "join the Royals' big league staff full-time and oversee all hitting efforts." Assistant Hitting Coach, Keoni DeRenne, will remain in his role with the club and Mike Tosar, Special Assignment Hitting Coach, "will also be in uniform with the Major League team."
Royals' hitters of every experience level have struggled to start the season. Dependable veterans Whit Merrifield and Salvador Perez have hovered around the Mendoza line and the highly anticipated debut of Bobby Witt Jr. hasn't produced the results that many had hoped. With new faces in charge, the Royals will look to revive its anemic attack at the plate.
