The Washington Baseball team defeated a good Shakamak team in the Tom Miles Invitational Saturday 7-5. Caleb Armstrong went the distance for the win. The Hatchets are 8-13 and play Gibson Southern tomorrow. The Lady Hatchet Softball team defeated Bloomfield 14-4 on Saturday. The Softball team will host North Knox today. Barr Reeve topped North Daviess on Saturday 14-5. Barr Reeve baseball defeated White River Valley 9-2 Saturday in game one of their doubleheader. The Vikings play Shakamak today with live coverage at 6:00 pm on the General 95.9 / 101.3fm. Tonight is coaches vs cancer night at Barr Reeve.

Barr Reeve Softball edged out Loogootee 2-1. They play South Knox today. Loogootee travels to Shoals. Loogootee baseball will take on Orleans.

Vincennes Lincoln lost a pair of conference baseball games Saturday to Evansville Reitz and Memorial.

South Knox baseball got their ninth straight win over Linton 6-3.

North Knox baseball shut out Clay City 10-0.

NE Dubois got by North Knox in Softball 15-5.

Washington Catholic girls tennis fell just short to Vincennes Lincoln on Saturday 3-2.

Washington Hatchet girls tennis went to 18-1 with a 5-0 win over South Spencer on Friday. One match left in the regular season Tuesday at Tecumseh.

Loogootee girls tennis ends the season at 17-2 with a 3-2 win over Gibson Southern.

The Cincinnati Reds did not allow a hit, but the Pittsburgh Pirates scored on a fielder’s choice groundout in the eighth and beat the Reds 1-0 Sunday at PNC Park. It was the first time since 2008 a Major League team won without recording a hit, and just the sixth time since 1901. In Arizona, Frank Schwindel drove in Patrick Wisdom in the top of the ninth, and the Chicago Cubs defeated the Diamondbacks 3-2. The Cardinals dominated the Giants 15-6 in St. Louis. With the game out of reach, Albert Pujols made his first career pitching appearance in the ninth and gave up four runs.

The New York Yankees beat the Chicago White Sox 5-1 at Guaranteed Rate Field. The Detroit Tigers defeated the Baltimore Orioles 5-1 to earn a series sweep. Minnesota bested Cleveland 3-1.

The Atlanta Dream beat the Indiana Fever 85-79 Sunday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Kurt Busch passed Kyle Larson with eight laps to go and won in the NASCAR Cup Series at Kansas Speedway. Busch gave new team 23XI Racing its second-ever win, following Bubba Wallace’s rain-shortened victory at Talladega last year. The team is co-owned by NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin and basketball legend Michael Jordan, and Busch’s number 45 Toyota was sponsored by Jordan Brand Sunday. The 2004 NASCAR champion led a race-high 116 of 267 laps. Larson finished second, followed by Kyle Busch, Hamlin and Christopher Bell.
