Steven Woods killed outside Rally’s on Raymond Road in November

A second man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting outside a Jackson fast-food restaurant. Gregory Beale, 30, was arrested Monday, the same day another suspect, Jarrick Sumrell, appeared in court. Beale is charged with accessory after the fact and simple assault, according to jail records. Jackson police confirmed the arrest but did not say what role Beale played in the killing of Steven Woods. During Monday's court hearing, a judge set bond at $1 million for Sumrell, 27, who is suspected of shooting and killing Woods, 28, in November outside of Rally's on Raymond Road."From my understanding, they pulled in, robbed him and shot and killed him," Woods' mother Stacy Hampton said.Hampton said her family is still trying to cope with the loss — especially his three children, the youngest of whom is 5 years old."She's constantly looking for her dad. She always asks me. I took her to church and she says, 'Mimi, is my daddy about to come out?' Because all she remembers is from the funeral," Hampton said.With a record 156 homicides in 2021, there are many families still searching for justice. As she waits for Sumrell's trial, Hampton said she is hoping and praying someone will be held fully accountable for her son's death.
