Food News: Fox in the Snow opening Dublin shop, Myungrang Hotdogs open in Short North

News broke last week and has been confirmed by ownership that Fox in the Snow will open a location at 38 W. Bridge St. in Historic Dublin. This is the fourth location overall for the cafe; no exact timeline for the opening has been released.

The Korean-style hot dog shop Myungrang Hotdogs opened last week at 580 N. High St. in the Short North. The chain specializes in hot dogs and mozzarella sticks that are dipped and battered in different ingredients.

High Bank Distillery opens its second location at 1379 E. Johnstown Rd. in Gahanna on Wednesday, May 18.

On social media last week, New Albany’s Soulshine Tavern & Kitchen announced it would close after service on Saturday, May 21. The owners said the closure came because of the inability to come to terms with their landlord when renewing their lease.

The Hills Downtown will host A Downtown Picnic on Saturday, May 21, from noon to 3 p.m. The ticketed event includes food samples from local vendors, live music, giveaways and tastings of wines, cocktails and other beverages.

Chicago deep-dish pizza staple Lou Malnati’s announced plans to open multiple locations around Central Ohio, with the first potentially arriving by the end of the year.

Beginning last week, Mikey’s Late Night Slice parked its food truck at Land-Grant Brewing’s beer garden. Mikey’s will complement the existing Ray Ray’s Hog Pit truck on-site, and will serve lunch and dinner Thursdays to Sundays through the summer. The Mikey’s owners also announced on social media this week that all locations have returned to their regular late night hours, which haven’t been available since March of 2020.

Playa Bowls opened its latest Central Ohio location at 5765 N. Hamilton Rd. in New Albany last week.

After serving Clintonville for 70 years from its High Street location, Gatto’s Pizza has re-opened in its new digs at 3420 Indianola Ave. The new location was the longtime home to Wildflower Café, which closed after 20 years in September 2021.

Columbus Craft Beer Week is underway and runs through Saturday, May 21. A celebration of Columbus beer and breweries, the week features hundreds of tastings, special collaboration brews, beer pairing dinners, workshops and more. In tandem with Beer Week, the seventh volume of the Columbus Ale Trail has launched. Nearly 50 Central Ohio breweries appear on the trail, with prizes awarded for visiting breweries specifically in Franklin County; guests have until May 1, 2023, to collect and redeem stamps.

Getaway Brewing Co. hosts the Dublin Cocktail Classic on June 13 from 7-10 p.m. Local bartenders who work at a Dublin-based cocktail bar/restaurant can apply with their best travel-inspired cocktail ideas to be in the competition through May 29. The ticketed event in June will include cocktail samples and a view to the judging.
