Woman accused of stabbing New Hampshire man in head, stealing his car held without bail
A New Hampshire woman accused of stabbing a 71-year-old Manchester man in the head before stealing his car has been ordered held without bail.
Stephanie Beard, 34, of Manchester, New Hampshire, was arrested in Boston on Saturday on a warrant charging her with second-degree murder. She was driving the victim's car at the time.
A plea of not guilty was entered on her behalf Monday in Boston Municipal Court, and she was held without bail. She is fighting extradition to New Hampshire.
"Through the investigation, officers were able to stop the vehicle in the area of 69 Boston St., and were able to identify the defendant -- who was the occupant -- Ms. Stephanie Beard," said Assistant District Attorney Kevin Flaherty.
Beard will return to court on June 21.
Investigators said John Glennon was found dead at about 8 a.m. Friday inside his home at the Carpenter Center apartment complex on Franklin Street in Manchester, New Hampshire. According to investigators, Glennon was stabbed in the head with a knife.
An autopsy conducted Saturday determined that the cause of Glennon's death was multiple sharp force injuries and the manner of his death was homicide.
Beard was also charged with theft by unauthorized taking for stealing Glennon's car, a silver Subaru Impreza. Authorities said Beard had been seen driving Glennon's car in the Manchester area, heading south on Interstate 293.
Beard was also charged with being a fugitive from justice in Massachusetts.
