Grand Marais, MN, May 16, 2022—Cook County, MN, issued a Local Emergency Declaration on May 12, 2022, after flooding damaged roads and culverts in multiple locations around the County.

The damage has led to several road closures, but most roads are now open again as Cook County Highway Department crews continue to make repairs and floodwaters have begun to recede.

A local Emergency Declaration is required to receive Minnesota State and FEMA funds to reimburse the county for damages incurred and repairs to damaged Public Infrastructure. County officials will meet soon with Minnesota State and FEMA personnel to conduct a Preliminary Damage Assessment.

“Some of the affected roads have reopened, while new closures continue to arise,” said Emergency Management Director Mike Keyport.
