A bright and shiny renovated transit center is now greeting bus riders in York. Today, local leaders cut the ribbon on Rabbit Transit’s King Street terminal.
The $3 million project upgrades the facility to make it more ADA compliant, safer and more secure, while raising the roof heights for taller natural gas buses.
A combination of federal, state and local money made this dream a reality.
“This is the epicenter of so much more that is going on right now particularly with the bike trails and with the ability of pedestrians, bikers and even other commuters to come here and use this as a central location to reach so many other destinations,” said Mayor Michael Helfrich, (D) York.
Since 45 percent of residents in the city do not have cars, there is a huge reliance on the bus.
Rabbit Transit transports about two million riders a year.
