Shannon Gilday appears in court again, judge enters not guilty plea

RICHMOND Ky. (FOX 56) — The man who police said shot and killed the daughter of a former Kentucky lawmaker in Madison County appeared in court again Monday morning.

Last week Shannon Gilday tried to change his plea to guilty, but mentally ill. The judge rejected that plea.

This morning, prosecutors said they need proof that Gilday is mentally ill if he wants to change his plea. Gilday’s attorney argued that all the proof is there. The judge entered a not guilty plea on Gilday’s behalf.

Prosecutors in the case filed a notice of aggravating circumstances that would seek enhanced penalties upon conviction.

Gilday heads back to court again on July 22 at 9 a.m.
