While Gavin Lux delivered the walk-off two-run double to help the Los Angeles Dodgers avoid being swept by the Philadelphia Phillies in a four-game series, their rally started when Cody Bellinger pulled a triple down the right-field line with two outs.

Bellinger’s extra-base hit came with Corey Knebel one strike away from converting a second save of the series. “Just trying to get on base,” Bellinger said after the win. “Threw me heater up, and just tried to put the barrel on the ball.

“And once I saw it go in the corner, I wanted to get to three. He’s got a good curveball, so you take that maybe out of the equation.”

The Dodgers’ comeback win prevented the Phillies from completing what would have been only the second four-game series sweep at Dodger Stadium in franchise history. Their only time doing so remains from August 29-September 1, 1985.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers enter play Monday atop the National League West standings and with the fifth-best record in baseball. However, they also have lost five of the last seven games, and next on the schedule are the Arizona Diamondbacks, who won the last series between the teams.

“It was a big win,” Bellinger said. “I mean, they were really good. We got to keep fighting no matter what. So to get some momentum into this next series is important.”

Bellinger proud to see Lux overcome error

Had the Dodgers fallen to the Phillies, a Gavin Lux error in the second inning that led to four unearned runs undeniably would have been in the spotlight. Instead, it became a footnote to his game-winning hit.

“I think errors happen, mental errors happen, physical errors happen,” Bellinger said. “To come out on top of that in a big moment, right there, it’s important for him. … You know you got to get over it. You’ve made errors before, you’re going to make errors in the future.

“You obviously want to limit them as much as possible, but you know, they’re part of the game. And he just let his natural ability to take over, forgot about it, and helped us win.”
