JACKSON -- Here is this week’s list of nominees for Athlete of the Week in the Jackson area.
The voting will run through 11 a.m. Friday with a winner announced soon after. Results do not impact any post-season accolades and the balloting is just for fun and bragging rights.
Nevaeh Ingram, Northwest softball
Ingram threw a three-inning no hitter Wednesday in a win over Hastings, facing one batter over the minimum and striking out eight. She also struck out 25 batters in a doubleheader sweep of Mattawan on Monday.
Emma Smieska, Leslie soccer
Smieska had four first-half goals in a win over Grass Lake on Thursday.
Jacob Walker, Columbia Central track
Walker won the 1600 and 3200 at the East Jackson Dome Classic on Friday.
Hailey Whisman, Western softball
Whisman picked up her 200th strikeout of the season in a win over Springport on Friday in the Al Glick Classic, striking out 17 in the game.
Daylen Hinkle, Michigan Center baseball
Hinkle struck out 13 in a three-hit, complete-game shutout of East Jackson on Thursday,
Madyson Whipple, Michigan Center softball
Hit a pair of homes runs in a win over Hanover-Horton Wednesday, two days after hitting another against Columbia Central, becoming the program’s all-time career home run leader.
Grant Bradley, Napoleon baseball
Bradley struck out eight in a win over Addison on Wednesday. He had two doubles and drove in two runs in a Friday nine-inning loss to Hanover-Horton.
Rylee Fitzpatrick, Grass Lake softball
Fitzpatrick had two doubles and a triple in a win over Coleman on Saturday.
