Each week area high school coaches can submit a list of standout performances from their team in the previous week’s games. If your child’s name — or anyone else’s from your child’s team — does not appear on the list following a great performance, please encourage your coach to email their submissions to jhughes@gastongazette.com.

Baseball

Parker Agosta, East Gaston: Was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored in his team’s 12-11 win over Pine Lake Prep. He followed with the Warriors’ only hit in a season-ending loss at the hand of Randleman.

Isaac Armstrong, East Lincoln: Allowed no runs on four hits and struck out 11 in his team’s 8-0 win over Forestview in the opening round of the 3A playoffs. He also had two hits, including a solo home run. In a second round win  over Eastern Guilford, Armstrong had a double and a home run along with three RBIs.

Jake Beaty, South Point: Needed only 85 pitches to lead his team to a 4-1 win over West Rowan. The senior hurler allowed one run on three hits with eight strikeouts.

Zane Brockman, Kings Mountain: Was 3-for-6 this past week for the Mountaineers in playoff matchups against Tuscola and Jesse Carson. He also pitched 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and eight strikeouts.

Leonard Hadley, Mountain Island Charter: Was 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs in his team’s 8-7 win over Starmount.

Landon Hahn, Cherryville: Batting leadoff, Hahn was 5-for-7 with two RBIs and three runs scored to help the Ironmen to playoff wins over Piedmont Community Charter and Mountain Island Charter.

Kellen Karr, North Lincoln: The Knights’ freshman hurler pitched 6.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits with 11 strikeouts in his team’s 2-1 victory over Crest.

Colby Putnam, Burns: Had three hits in the Bulldogs’ first round win over West Wilkes. 

Tyler Steele, Lincoln Charter: Was 2-for-3 with two runs scored in a 7-5 win over Surry Central in the first round of the 2A state playoffs. In second round play, he added two more hits and another run in a 7-4 win over Forbush.

Softball

Nora Bryant, Mountain Island Charter: Had a double, triple and three RBIs in a 26-4 win over Piedmont Community Charter. She followed by going 2-for-3 with a double, triple and three RBIs in a 9-0 victory over Queen’s Grant.

Sayge Strange, Burns: Allowed no runs on four hits and struck out nine in her team’s 6-0 win over Pine Lake Prep. She also hit two home runs and had four RBIs.

Taniyah Thomas, East Lincoln: The Mustang freshman was 5-for-6 last week in wins over West Charlotte and East Rowan, earning two doubles, a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored.

Sara Rose Warlick, Crest: Had three hits for the Chargers, including a two-run homer in a 7-1 win over Central Academy. Warlick followed with two more hits in Crest’s 12-2 win over Jesse Carson, hitting a three-run homer in a winning effort.

Hadley Womack, Stuart Cramer: Was 2-for-4 with a home run in the Storm’s 6-0 win over St. Stephens. Womack also contributed two hits in her team’s 6-0 loss to Rockingham County.

Athletes of the week

Trevin Moyer, Mountain Island Charter: Won 1A West regional titles in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes last weekend.

Melia Myers, Kings Mountain: Earned a hat trick in a 4-0 win over North Gaston. She added an assist in her team’s 4-2 win over Hunter Huss later in the week.

Cadence Setzer, Crest: Scored five goals in wins over Stuart Cramer and Forestview, helping the Chargers secure second place in Big South 3A.

Grace Smith, South Point: Scored four goals and assisted on three more in wins over South Iredell and North Gaston last week.

Ava Stillwell, East Gaston: Scored three goals and assisted on two more in a 9-0 victory over Cherryville. 

Lauren Tolbert, Highland Tech: Won 1A West regional titles in the 100, 200, 400 and 800 this past weekend.

Alexis Willis, Stuart Cramer: Claimed 3A West regional titles in the long jump and triple jump.
