MILLCREEK — A couple that police say ran over a man twice during a marijuana deal gone bad was arrested by Unified police Sunday night.
Karson Rae Swenson and Brynn Leigh Lunn, both 18, were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated robbery causing serious injury, aggravated assault, and two counts of drug possession with intent to distribute.
Swenson and Lunn arranged via Snapchat to meet a man in a parking lot, 1714 E. 4500 South, to sell him about $350 worth of marijuana, according to a police booking affidavit.
The vehicle ran over the victim, "then made a U-turn and ran over the victim again as Karson yelled out profanities and gang slurs," according to the affidavit. "Multiple witnesses … stated the vehicle intentionally made a U-turn and intentionally ran over the victim a second time."
The man was taken to a local hospital with a possible broken pelvis, according to Unified police.
While officers were investigating the incident, Swenson and Lunn returned to the parking lot, then drove off again when police spotted them. Using driver's license information and photos from social media, detectives were able to identify Swenson and Lunn and arrested them later that evening in Taylorsville, the affidavit states.
"When they were taken into custody, they had over 200 Xanax pills and multiple THC items with them," according to the affidavit.
Lunn claimed the victim gave her fake money and she tried to drive away because she was afraid of him, the affidavit states. Police have requested that she and Swenson be held in jail without the possibility of posting bail pending the filing of charges, noting that "Karson is a known gang member and is rivals with the victim. If Brynn or Karson are released, there is significant threat of gang retaliation which poses a substantial danger to the public."
