The announcement of PlayStation's altered Plus subscription back in late March had many fans confused, as it was originally touted as a Game Pass rival. The subscription service to play online games with friends would be folded into Sony's already-existing cloud streaming service, PlayStation Now, which at the time had nowhere near the number of games Sony was expecting for its forthcoming reiteration.
The hype clearly hinged on what Sony would offer in the form of video games across its three tiers. While it did say the new service would launch in June with over 700 varied experiences, the enormity of the list didn't outweigh the potential in what to expect. But, now Sony has finally voiced what games will make it on its new service - at least, initially.
In a blog post published on Monday, May 16th, Sony dives into the three varied tiers of this new PlayStation Plus subscription service, highlighting new features and its highly anticipated game catalog. The three tiers under the service include PlayStation Plus Essential, Plus Extra, and Plus Premium. There is also a Deluxe offering, which will only be available for select markets that don't have cloud streaming capabilities, giving them access to games across PS2, PSP, and the original PlayStation without the added price hike.
PlayStation also said that previously purchased classic games bought on older platforms could be carried over to newer systems at no extra charge or purchase the service. Sony writes, "When these titles are released for PS4 and PS5, players can head to PlayStation Store and download a version for the consoles at no extra cost if they already own the digital version of the title.

Sony notes several times that the lists are only a selection of games to expect on each tier of the service, not, in fact, the full thing, implying that many more games will be added in the future. For its Plus Essential offering, "a monthly refresh will occur on the first Tuesday of the month," whereas for Plus Extra and Premium, the monthly refresh will take place "in the middle of each month," and "the number of games refreshed will vary per month."
The team also highlighted that free monthly games would remain no matter which tier you decide to choose. Sony plans to launch the services starting on May 24th for Asia, Japan on June 2nd, North and South America come June 13th, and Europe, Australia, and New Zealand on June 23rd.
