Train collides with vehicle in Kimmswick, killing 1 man

KIMMSWICK, Mo. – One man is dead and a woman and 3-year-old boy are injured following a train and truck collision in Kimmswick.

According to a spokesperson for the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 11 a.m. at the railroad crossing near Windsor Harbor Lane.

Investigators said the pickup truck was traveling east on Windsor and the Union Pacific freight train was traveling south. The train struck the driver’s side, killing the 67-year-old male driver and seriously injuring a 57-year-old female passenger.

A 3-year-old boy, who was in a child restraint seat in the back, was also injured. The boy’s condition was not immediately known.

This crossing does not have a gate or flagging lights but it has a railroad crossing sign and a stop sign.

A witness told FOX 2 that the train was blowing its horn before it approached the crossing.

State troopers said it will take some time to determine why the train did not stop. It was not immediately known how fast the train was going at the time of the collision. The names of the victims have not been released.
