Homicide investigation underway in west Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a homicide Monday morning.

According to BPD, officers were called to the 600 block of Sheridan Road just after 9 a.m. to conduct a welfare check. Officers were then able to get into the residence and discovered a person dead in the living room. The victim was suffering from injuries consistent with a homicide, according to BPD.

No suspects have been arrested at this time. Investigators believe the perpetrator may have known the victim.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as 83-year-old Daniel Richard Garrick.
