JUNCTION CITY, Ore. - From Shadow Hills to Southern Hills, Eugene native Colin Inglis will be competing in this week's PGA Championship alongside Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson and some of the best golfers in the world.
Inglis spends his days as a club pro at Shadow Hills Country Club in Junction City. But this week he'll be among the best of the best at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma, playing in the 2022 PGA Championship.
"Feeling good. Starting to get a little nervous," said Inglis. "But my game is in a good spot and feeling good."
Inglis qualified by finishing in the top 20 at the PGA Professional Championship, a goal he's had his eyes on for a long time.
"I was right there last year and had a terrible last day and fell out of that top 20. But that just gave me a lot of confidence going forward for this year and knew that I could get in that top 20 and get in the PGA."
Colin is part of a huge golfing family. His sister, Caroline, won an individual PAC-12 title at Oregon and currently plays on the LPGA tour.
"Dad kind of taught us all growing up and got us into the game. I don't see her a whole lot these days because she's out on tour but when she's in town we try and play, it's always competitive."
The oddsmakers have Colin as a longshot this week in his PGA debut. But the Eugene native says he'll be giving it his all while also soaking up the moment.
"I mean these guys are my idols, growing up they were my idols. So it'll be cool to see them in person. Learn from what these guys do and try and elevate my game to the next level going forward. But yeah, I wanna make the cut and I want to be in contention. I think you're crazy if you don't go to a tournament and say you want to win. I know it's a longshot but those are my goals."
Inglis will tee off Thursday in round one. Last year's winner of the PGA Championship took home $2.1 million from the victory.
