SAN ANTONIO - This tail had a happy ending, but it doesn't always work out that way! A dog that was missing for two years was reunited with his owner, who never gave up hope she would find her lost fur baby.
City of San Antonio Animal Care Services said that Mrs S. adopted her dog Andrew ten years ago, when he was just a baby. Mrs S. said, “He picked me. When I met him, he barked nonstop trying to get my attention.”
He became her best friend, starting the day she brought him home with her. They were happy together for eight years until he accidentally got out one day and she could not find him.
“I searched every day for him," said Mrs. S. Two years went by as she searched the neighborhood, websites, and social media pages trying to find her furry friend. She was beginning to lose hope, when one day in her routine search, she saw a white poodle mix on the City of San Antonio ACS website and just knew it was Andrew.
She contacted ACS and said, “Hi, I was looking online, and I think you found my baby! I have been looking everywhere for him, his name is Andrew."
The poodle mix had been found by a good Samaritan about 30 mins away from his original home. He was understandably confused and would not allow many people get too close. His fur was matted and stained around his eyes.
Mrs S. was able to identify Andrew, but was understandably nervous that he might not remember her! After all, two years is a really long time. Andrew seemed to have trouble with his vision, which made Mrs. S even more scared but when she reached out for him, time melted away. “He wrapped his paws around my arm and held me tight," said Mrs. S.
Andrew’s time away from home could have been much shorter, if he had been microchipped. If you haven't gotten your pet chipped, this story should serve as a reminder that that chip could make the difference in whether you find your lost 4-legged companion or not.
