Officers investigate drowning of 6-year-old in Madison County

FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX 56) — Officers with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife are investigating the apparent drowning of a Madison County boy who had been fishing with his family.

Officers said they received a call just after 8 p.m. Sunday about a report of a child missing in Red Lick Creek, approximately 9 miles east of Berea.

An emergency responder from the Red Lick Volunteer Fire Department joined the family in the search. It was during this search a family member found 6-year-old Leo Shouse of Berea. Shouse was unresponsive when the emergency responder started administering CPR.

Authorities said Shouse was transported to Baptist Health Hospital in Richmond and was pronounced deceased at 9:34 p.m.

The state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort will perform an autopsy. The investigation is ongoing.
