6-year-old boy drowned in Red Lick Creek Sunday

The victim was identified as Leo Shouse

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ/PRESS RELEASE) – Conservation officers with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources are investigating the apparent drowning of a Madison County boy who had been fishing with his family on Sunday.

Officers responded after a call was received shortly after 8 p.m. (EDT) by Kentucky State Police Post 7 in Richmond about a report of a child that was missing in Red Lick Creek, about 9 miles east of Berea, Kentucky.

Family members were soon joined in their search of the creek by an emergency responder from the Red Lick Volunteer Fire Department. A family member found Leo Shouse, 6, of Berea, a short time later. He was unresponsive when the emergency responder began administering CPR.

Shouse was transported to Baptist Health Hospital in Richmond and was pronounced dead at 9:34 p.m. An autopsy will be performed at the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort.

The investigation is ongoing.
